How to Change the Seed on Your Terraria Server

This guide will help you change the world seed on your Terraria server. Seeds determine exactly how your world generates, allowing you to share specific world layouts with friends, replay famous maps, or enable wild secret world modifiers!

Important Warning: Changing a world seed requires the generation of a completely new world! If you want to keep your current world, be sure to back it up before proceeding.

Changing the World Seed

To apply a new seed, you will need to edit your server's configuration file and then tell the server to generate a new world name so it doesn't load your old save.

  1. Log in to your MintServers Game Panel.
  2. Stop your Terraria server.
  3. Go to the Files in the left sidebar and click on config.txt to edit it.
  4. Find the seed setting, change it to the exact seed you want to use, and click Save Content.
  5. Next, go to Game Settings in the left sidebar.
  6. Under the Basic section, change your World Name to something new. This forces the server to generate a fresh world instead of loading the old one.
  7. Go to your Console and click Start to generate your new world!

Here is a quick reference for finding these settings in your panel:

Special World Seeds

Terraria features several special built-in seeds that generate completely unique worlds with modified mechanics, inverted biomes, and increased difficulty. These work perfectly on dedicated servers!

Seed Description
5162020 Drunk world. Generates both Corruption and Crimson with both ore variants.
not the bees Replaces most of the world with Jungle, Hive, and Honey Blocks.
for the worthy Drastically increases difficulty with modified boss AI and enemy stats.
celebrationmk10 Paints the world in bright colors with increased rare item drop rates.
the constant Don't Starve crossover. Adds hunger, darkness mechanics, and a darker shader.
no traps Despite the name, generates significantly more traps than a normal world.
dontdigup Flips the world, spawning the player in the Underworld.
getfixedboi Combines all secret seeds into one world with upscaled difficulty.

Secret World Seeds (1.4.5+)

Terraria 1.4.5 introduced a massive list of highly specific secret seeds (such as arachnophobia to remove spiders, or winter is coming to freeze the world). However, these seeds require exact World Size and Difficulty matches to generate properly.

💡 Pro Tip for Secret Seeds: Because dedicated servers can sometimes conflict with complex secret seed generation, we highly recommend generating the world using the seed in Singleplayer first, and then uploading that generated world save directly to your MintServers panel.

If you run into any issues getting your new world to generate, please open a support ticket and our team will be right there to assist you!
