How to Change Your Vintage Story Server Version

Looking to play-test an upcoming release, switch to the unstable branch, or roll back to an older version of Vintage Story? You can easily manage your server's version directly from your MintServers control panel.

Important Warning: Always back up your world save before changing versions! Features from experimental or pre-release builds can cause world corruption and are strictly for testing. We recommend sticking to the main stable branch for normal gameplay.

Changing the Release Branch

If you want to swap between Stable, Unstable, or Pre-release builds, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your MintServers Game Panel.
  2. Stop your Vintage Story server. It is always best to do this first!
  3. In the left sidebar, click on Game Settings.
  4. Find the Release branch setting and select your desired branch (stable, unstable, or pre).
  5. Next, navigate to Settings.
  6. Click Reinstall Server to pull the files for your newly selected branch.

Here is a quick reference for finding these settings in your panel:

Navigation Path - Changing the Branch:
Game Settings> Release branch

Navigation Path - Applying the Update:
Settings > Reinstall Server

Changing to a Specific Version

If you need a very specific version number (like 1.21.6) instead of just the latest release on a branch:

  1. Ensure your Vintage Story server is Stopped on the panel.
  2. In the sidebar, click on Game Settings.
  3. Ensure your Release branch is set to either stable or unstable, depending on where your desired version lives.
  4. Change the Release version field from latest to your exact desired version number (e.g., type in 1.21.6).
  5. Go to Settings and click Reinstall Server.
  6. Once the installation completes, head back to your console and click Start!

Note: A community-maintained list of Vintage Story versions can be found at vsversions.com.

Your server should now be running your selected version! If you run into any issues during the setup, please open a support ticket and our team will be right there to assist you.
