How to Update your Hytale Server

The Simple Solution: Automatic Updates

MintServers handles Hytale updates automatically. When you restart your server, the system checks for newer versions and installs them if available.

Here's all you need to do:

  1. Log into your MintServers game panel.
  2. Go to the Console tab.
  3. Click Stop and wait for the server to shut down.
  4. Click Start.
  5. Watch the console logs for update confirmation.

That's it! If a new version is available, it will be downloaded and installed automatically during startup.

Switching Versions (Release & Pre-release)

You can verify or change your server version using the toggle found in your settings.

  1. Navigate to the Game Settings tab.
  2. Locate the Release / Pre-release toggle button.
  3. Select your desired version (Release for stable, Pre-release for experimental).

Important: Your local Hytale game client must match the version selected on the server. If your server is set to Pre-release, ensure your game launcher is also updated to the Pre-release branch to connect successfully.

Before You Update

While updates are automatic, following these best practices will help prevent issues:

Create a Backup

Always create a backup before updating to protect your worlds and player data.

  1. Go to the Backups tab in your panel.
  2. Click Create Backup.
  3. Wait for completion before restarting.

Check Mod Compatibility

If you're running mods or plugins, verify they support the new version before updating. Visit the mod's page on CurseForge to check compatibility.

⚠️ Mod Conflicts

Outdated mods are the #1 cause of crashes after updates. If your server won't start after updating, temporarily remove all mods from the /mods folder and restart.

What Gets Updated?

When your server updates, only the Hytale server software files are replaced. Your data remains safe:

  • Preserved: Worlds, player data, configurations, and uploaded mods.
  • Updated: Core server engine and system files.
